The Environmental Protection Agency has released its draft risk assessment of the herbicide atrazine. Their findings determined atrazine poses risks to plants and animals. Sorghum Check Off Board Chairman and South Dakota grower David Fremark says atrazine is safe and has been for some time.

He says atrazine is also a very effective product in controlling problem weeds.

Fremark says if the EPA stands by this assessment it will hurt agriculture.

Once the EPA assessment is published in the federal register they’ll hold a 60 day public comment period on their findings.
