EPA Rejects Oil Industry Petitions on Changing Biofuels Programs

EPA Rejects Oil Industry Petitions on Changing Biofuels Programs

Oil industry groups recently filed several petitions with the Environmental Protection Agency requesting changes to American biofuels programs. However, the EPA denied those petitions. American Coalition for Ethanol Senior Vice President Ron Lamberty says it came down to a blending issue.

He says another major reason the EPA rejected the petitions is if they had been approved it would have complicated how volume obligations are determined.

Lamberty says the larger refiners want a larger piece of the pie, meaning the RINS credits.

The oil industry groups wanted the EPA to begin a full rule making process to change the point of obligation requirement in the Renewable Fuel Standard.
