Environmental Protection Agency officials have announced they will seek public comments on a plan to change the way the agency calculates the costs and benefits in regulatory decision making. Nebraska Farm Bureau Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says that’s positive because in the past nine years the agency hasn’t had much clarity or real-world accuracy behind their regulations.
He says when it comes to federal rules and regulation the more public input the better.
Dux adds an open process of regulatory rule-making also benefits agriculture and regulators alike.
Meanwhile, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman John Barrasso says the change the EPA is considering is needed. Once the rule is published in the Federal Register, the EPA will take public comment for 60 days.
