The Ninth Circuit Court in San Francisco has given the EPA 60 days to either write a new rule for Chlorpyrifos or have use of the product halted. South Dakota Corn Grower’s Association President Scott Stahl hopes the EPA follows through and bases their decision on sound science as chlorpyrifos has been a useful tool for producers in controlling insects.
He says whether its chlorpyrifos or other chemicals producers use, sound science and thorough review must be done to benefit producers as well as consumers.
Stahl says his group will continue to work with NCGA in staying on top of these types of issues and letting Congress, the administration and federal agencies know of the importance of chemical uses for producers.
EPA officials says their currently reviewing all their options following the recent Federal Court decision.
