EPA Denies RFS Point of Obligation Request

The Environmental Protection Agency has denied petitions to move the Point of Obligation for the Renewable Fuel Standard. POET’s Matt Merritt says a handful of refiners had requested the change so the obligation for blending gasoline into biofuels would be placed on retailers.

Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says the EPA decision helps keep the RFS status quo and is a major win for the biofuels industry.

Merritt says the EPA decision is also a victory for consumers.

American Coalition for Ethanol Chief Executive Officer Brian Jennings says had the RFS Point of Obligation been placed on retailers it would have put an enormous burden on station owners and consumers.
