After a delay of several months, the Environmental Protection Agency has finally ruled that E-15 blended ethanol can be used all year round within the Midwest. Although renewable fuel organizations, corn growers, and many government officials were pleased at the announcement, many have also said it is disappointing that the rule won’t go into effect until 2024. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says, “While long overdue, I am thrilled that the EPA has approved our multi-state bipartisan waiver request that will pave the way for year-round E-15 and bring certainty to the industry.” Reynolds continued to says, “However the arbitrary delay in implementation of the rule this summer is unacceptable and disappointing, but hardly surprising. Iowa won’t accept it without a fight. Denny Friest is the president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association. He calls the action disappointing.
Friest says he doesn’t understand why the ruling can’t be implemented immediately, and instead having the ruling wait until next year.
