The EPA and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission have entered into a memorandum of understanding where EPA will share RIN data and information with the CFTC. Both agencies are hoping this will help improve the functionality and clarity of the RIN system for all market participants and the public. American Coalition for Ethanol Senior Vice President Ron Lamberty says for his industry the real key is transparency.
He says oil companies have used renewable identification or RIN numbers to try to eliminate or change the renewable fuel standard.
Lamberty says if RINS are used properly by the oil companies, then it won’t be costly for them to follow the RFS.
Lamberty says ACE has been wanting this type of agreement for some time and they’re are glad to see the EPA and CFTC are both moving ahead with it.
