Environmental and Animal Rights Groups are suing EPA in an effort to force the agency to more heavily regulate air pollution from confined animal feedlot operations. Iowa Citizen’s for Community Improvement’s State Policy Director Adam Mason says EPA isn’t moving fast enough in regulating CAFOs.
Mason says ICCI along with the Environmental Integrity Project and HSUS want tougher enforcement of the Clean Air Act.
Mason says their lawsuit is similar to the recent legal action filed by the Des Moines Water Works over nitrate pollution in the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers. He says they’re targeting 8500 of the nation’s estimated 20,000 farms that are located in Iowa.
