The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has approved a plan by Northwestern Energy to begin some energy efficiency programs for their gas and electric customers.

Commissioner Chris Nelson says they have been working with Northwestern on the plan for several years…

 

The program will start in October of this year, and will include energy audits and efficiency rebates.

Nelson says they always want ratepayers treated fairly…

 

While allowing some rebates now, Nelson says the long term benefit to consumers may be in holding down rate increases in the future…

 

The plan passed the Commission on a two to one vote, with Nelson being the “no” vote. He says he wanted some different terms in the agreement.
