A program that gives Nebraskans with disabilities specialized investment portfolios is celebrating its two-year anniversary.

State Treasurer Don Stenberg says the Enable Savings Plan offers many advantages over a regular bank account.

Additionally, Enable account funds won’t affect eligibility for Medicaid or other supplementary income sources. Stenberg says with about one-thousand members going into its second year he hopes many more disabled Nebraskans will take advantage of the program given time.

The program is made possible thanks to the passing of the federal Achieving a Better Life Experience Act in 2014 and a follow up law by passed by Unicameral in 2015
