USDA has announced emergency haying and grazing of Conservation Reserve Program acres in six southwest Minnesota counties. Minnesota State Farm Service Agency Executive Director Joe Martin says the status was triggered due to excessive precipitation. The counties impacted include Jackson, Nobles, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and Cottonwood.
Martin says with the rising prices for hay and alfalfa this will be beneficial for Minnesota livestock producers in the affected counties.
He says after harvest and full damage reports have been received, they may also have other programs to assist with physical damage to fields and farmsteads.
Martin says if the losses are high enough that may also trigger USDA’s emergency loan programs.
