President Obama announced the United States and Cuba are opening embassies in their respective capitals later this month. This formal reestablishment of diplomatic relations could lead to increased agricultural trade between the two nations. National Farmers Union’s Vice President of Programs, Chandler Goule says this is a huge victory for American agriculture.
Goule says given relations the U.S. has with other countries, this move only makes sense.
He says the embargo imposed earlier against Cuba was a failure and lifting it will benefit citizens of both nations and allow more flow of commodities to a nation that needs them.
The Cuban government says it will open its embassy in the U.S. on July 20th, while the U.S. is expected to launch its embassy in Havana in late July.
