A pair of informational meetings regarding the Electronic Logging Device Rule are being held in Rapid City January 23 and 31. The meetings are being hosted by the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and Black Hills Stock Show officials along with the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Stockgrowers President Gary Deering says there’s been several questions and some confusion regarding the ELD rule.

He says an ELD exemption for livestock haulers was enacted December 18 for ninety days. The rule remains in effect for other transporters. Deering says his group would like to see a further extension for livestock haulers. He says animal welfare is a major concern for producers.

Deering says the ELD rule needs to be tweaked.

The ELD informational sessions are January 23 during the horse events at the Central State’s Fairgrounds and on Wednesday January 31 during the cattle events at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.
