Many county election commission offices in Nebraska recorded record numbers of voters casting ballots early or requesting ballots by mail. Secretary of State John Gale says most people still prefer voting on Election Day itself.

Gale says nearly 860,000 voters will have to cast ballots in the state to achieve the 70-percent turnout he is expecting.

Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
