The EL Nino weather pattern is currently quite strong and expected to keep strengthening going into the winter. That’s according to South Dakota State Climatologist Dennis Todey. He says that sets up the pattern for heavier precipitation in South Dakota and the Central Plains going into harvest.
Todey says what’s good is that most of the Northern Plains crops are already mature and progress is going well.
He says the El Nino effect should mean a warmer winter than normal for the Northern Plains.
Todey expects the normal frost date and says because crop progress is so good thus far, there shouldn’t be any major problems.
