The beginning of October means cooler temperatures, with winter soon coming into sight.
South Dakota State Climatologist Dennis Todey says while we may see a cooler trend next week, that doesn’t set the stage for the last quarter of the year.

Todey says while it has been slow to start, they do expect an El Nino to continue developing in the Pacific Ocean.

Todey says while the polar vortex was blamed for much of last winter’s cold and windy weather, it’s actually the disruption of that normal pattern that brings the chill our way.

An El Nino normally brings milder and wetter conditions to the northern plains.
