The Edmunds County South Dakota Planning and Zoning Board on a 3 to 2 vote approved the building permit for a 5,000 turkey hen facility. The decision to issue the original permit was referred back to the Planning and Zoning Board following an appeals hearing. Edmunds County Commission Chairman Bob Olson says the Planning and Zoning Board held two meetings before approving the permit.

He says the Planning and Zoning Board’s decision could be appealed should opponents to the project choose to do that.

Olson says the Farm Holdings 12 LLC turkey project has several economic benefits for the county as well as the region.
three other turkey facilities planned for the rest of the county.
