The second driver in a two-vehicle crash Sunday west of Ipswich has died.

The names of the two men involved are not being released pending notification of family members. They were the only persons involved.

A 2012 Ford F-250 pickup was eastbound on U.S. Highway 12 when it crossed the center line into the westbound lane and collided with a 2006 Ford Fusion. The Fusion eventually erupted into flames.

The 24-year-old driver of the Fusion was pronounced dead at the scene. The 62-year-old driver of the pickup was extricated from the vehicle. He suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to an Aberdeen hospital. He was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital where he later died.

Use of seatbelts by both drivers is under investigation.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Edmund County Sheriff’s Office, Ipswich Fire Department, Ipswich Ambulance and Aberdeen Ambulance.
