A 2012 Ford F-250 pickup was eastbound on U.S. Highway 12 when it crossed the center line into the westbound lane and collided with a 2006 Ford Fusion. The Fusion eventually erupted into flames.

He suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to an Aberdeen hospital. He was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital where he later died.
Use of seatbelts by both drivers is under investigation.
