Economic Advisors Push for Trade Promotion Authority

Fourteen top Presidential economic advisors from both parties going back to Gerald Ford are asking Congress to give President Obama Trade Promotion Authority. They also say trade deals shouldn’t be used to address currency manipulation. National Farmers Union’s Vice President of Programs Chandler Goule says if currency manipulation isn’t addressed you’re just losing at the bargaining table.

Goule says besides making their own goods cheaper by devaluing or manipulating their currency, trading partners are also making U.S. goods more expensive which leads to an even larger trade deficit for the United States.

Goule says if currency manipulation isn’t addressed it will make it tougher for Trade Promotion Authority to pass.
