EB5 Hearing Held

Legislators on the Government Operations and Audit Committee went through piles of questions and responses in an effort to find out more about the EB-5 visa program in South Dakota.

The committee, meeting in Pierre yesterday, had asked for responses from Governor Dennis Daugaard, former Governor Mike Rounds, and Joop (yope) Bollen, who is at the center of the controversy.

After several hours of listening and discussion, Representative Mark Mickelson (mick-el-son) of Sioux Falls said he believes the committee has limited authority…

Democrats have been pushing for a more open investigation in an attempt to more directly tie Rounds to any potential problems.

Mickelson said he thinks the only other investigative avenue is with US Attorney Brendan Johnson…

Johnson has refused to confirm if there is a federal investigation.

Senator Jean Hunhoff says there is no way committee members can get through all the material during the meeting…

The committee decided to meet again on November 14th to review their results.
