Research is proving eating like a pig may actually be good for your health. That’s the message NDSU professor Dr. Eric Berg will be sharing with SDSU students tonight in Brookings. SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Bob Thaler says Dr. Berg has used pigs as a biomedical model for human nutrition research. He’ll talk about his findings and why pig diets are better than human diets for overall health and preventing obesity and a host of other human health concerns.
He says Dr. Berg also explains why it’s important to not only include protein in the diet, but also the correct balance of amino acids.
Berg was also involved in the writing of past dietary guidelines and will also talk about the politics behind establishing the Food Pyramid.
And Berg will also share results of a research trial where he fed pigs implanted beef and determined there was no impact on puberty. That speech is tonight at 7pm at the Larson Concert Hall at SDSU. It’s sponsored by the SDSU Swine Club.
