Dunkin Brands Calling for Animal Welfare Changes

Dunkin Brands Calling for Animal Welfare Changes

Dunkin Brands is the latest restaurant company to call for improved animal welfare standards. Dunkin officials say by the end of next year, they want to have 10 percent of the eggs used in their breakfast sandwiches in the U.S. to come from hens that don’t live in tightly confined cages. HSUS Agriculture Director Joe Maxwell says that’s a positive move the company is making and shows a trend in meeting consumers concerns.

Maxwell says hen housing isn’t the only issue Dunkin Brands is weighing in on. He says they’re also demanding more humane housing for sows.

Maxwell says these recent moves by restaurants in meeting consumer concerns over animal welfare may eventually lead to a debate regarding the possible need for national animal welfare standards.
