Iowa State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the overall figures give only a partial picture of the weather situation in the just completed month of July. The overall numbers do show a drop in normal rainfall and warmer temperatures.

Hillaker says the statewide rain average gives a little bit of the picture of the situation too.

Hillaker says that statewide total doesn’t seem to indicate the drought situation the state is in now, but he says the average is thrown off by the abundance of rain in northeast Iowa. He says Guttenberg on the eastern border is a good example as the city had a July record of 13-point-eight-eight inches of rain.
