Several South Dakota towns had some of the driest Aprils on record.
State climatologist Dennis Todey says the biggest precipitation deficits last month were in southeastern South Dakota, which was two inches or more below average.
Chamberlain and Mellette ended with their driest April on record. Madison, Roscoe and Big Stone City recorded their second-driest April. Eleven other weather stations recorded April among the top-five driest on record.
