A national survey find one in 10 Americans age 12 or older have used illegal drugs in the past month. Marijuana use among those in the survey jumped from just over six percent to eight-point-four percent. Dale Woolery with the Iowa Office of Drug Control Policy says marijuana use among young people is a particular concern.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health found the number of youth who see marijuana as a danger has dropped.

Woolery says the experts need more information to help with the education.

Marijuana is now legal in some states, and Woolery says young people can also read that as a message that marijuana is safe for them to use.

Woolery says a new Iowa Youth Survey on drug use will come out in 2016.
