Minnesota Farmers Union members are getting ready for their state convention in Minneapolis from November 19 to the 21st. State Farmers Union Government Relations Director Stu Lourey says they have a lot of items to talk about concerning their policies. He says heading the list is the need for relief for farmers and ranchers from this year’s drought.
He says he’s hearing a lot of concern from producers about supply chain disruptions and inability to get commodities out to export markets in a timely fashion.
Lourey says many of their members take part in the conservation programs and earlier this year listed concerns about how those programs aren’t working as efficiently as they should.
Lourey says another major topic for Farmers Union members will center around consolidation and concentration in the U.S.ag industry. He says they’ll also hold elections but those at this point are uncontested for President and Vice President.
