New technology is constantly being introduced in agriculture, and perhaps the latest is the use of a flying drone used to spray, and or seed your fields. At the recent Minnesota Farm Fest, a drone measuring approximately six feet wingspan and 18 inches in height was used to demonstrate how farmers could spray their fields using a drone. Arthur Chen with Pegasus says the drone can spray an entire field and will not overlap with spraying. Chen says farmers can use their cell phone to control the drone. Chen says the battery charge will last approximately for application of ten acres. He says while the first battery is in use, the second battery can be charging. Chen says when the battery is low the drone will automatically fly back to its home base from where it was launched. He says the range on the drone is about a half a mile. The tank can carry about eleven gallons of herbicide or pesticide with the thought of applying ten acres with one pass. The total cost of the drone with the spraying feature and seeding feature, along with the two batteries and generator is about $50,000.
