Dakota Rural Action has received at $15,000 grant to help improve pollinator health. DRA Pollinator Chair Elizabeth Fox says their goal is to help producers move away from neonicotinoid seed treatments, which they believe are harmful to pollinators, and instead use non-treated seeds.
She says they also want to conduct workshops to help farmers learn how to control pests, while still preserving beneficial insects.
Fox says they’re also encouraging residents to plant gardens that bring in native species of bees to help improve pollinator health.
A major concern has been the need to improve bee health and keep these pollinators from dying off due to many factors including Colony Collapse Disorder.
