Dordt University of Sioux Center, Iowa has expanded its agriculture program to include additional facilities for its students.  Dordt is a private college and one of the few within the region that offers a four-year degree in agriculture.  Dordt University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday where they dedicated a new mono-slope cattle barn, a greenhouse facility, and a commodity shed.  Gary DeVries serves as the college’s head of the Agriculture Department.  The second building dedicated is a large greenhouse facility.  DeVries says the greenhouse will focus on such items as peaches, apricots, cherries, plums, and other fruit-bearing trees.  He says several students come from those growing regions and the college wants to assist with their research.  DeVries discusses Saturday’s dedication schedule.  Senator Chuck Grassley says he will speak about the importance of agriculture education.  Visitors were given tours of the new agricultural facilities.
