Hoping to advance new discoveries in prostate cancer treatment and care, Jerry Pabst, a longtime Omaha art teacher and businessman donated $3 million through an estate gift to support research at the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Dr. Ken Cowan is the center’s director.

Cowan says the gift will be used to support research and patient care.

Pabst died from Esophageal cancer in 2016 but his longtime partner Bill Bures died from prostate cancer in 2005.  Pabst planned this gift some years ago and stated his investment in people at the cancer center will someday pay high dividends – meaning new treatments and possibly a cure.
