Doane Sweeps GPAC Awards

Players from Doane College swept the three weekly football Player of the Week awards from the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

 

Offense – Nate Meier, Running Back (Doane College)
Doane running back Nate Meier is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Meier, a junior from Pierce, Nebraska, ran for three touchdowns for the second straight game and eclipsed 100 yards for the fourth time this season as he helped guide Doane to a 42-17 win over No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan in the NAIA Football Game of the Week. DWU entered the game allowing 106 yards rushing per contest and Meier raced to 190 for the game, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He is second in the NAIA in rushing yards per game with 139.5 yards. Doane has a bye week before traveling to Seward to take on the Bulldogs on October 24th.

Defense – Jordan Pelletier, Defensive Lineman (Doane College)
Doane College defensive lineman Jordan Pelletier is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Pelletier, a junior, from San Antonio, Texas, played a big role on the defensive front as he recorded two sacks for Doane as the Tigers held Dakota Wesleyan to 337 yards in total offense, 116 yards below their average for the year. Doane also held DWU QB Dillon Turner to 46 yards rushing, well below his 90 yards per game average entering the contest. Doane has a bye week before traveling to Seward to take on the Bulldogs on October 24th.

Special Teams – Drew Klein, Kick Returner (Doane College)
Doane  return man Drew Klein is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Klein, a sophomore, from Papillion, Nebraska, took a reverse handoff from Tanner Thomas on the opening kickoff of the second half and raced 82 yards to the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown over the 12th-ranked DWU Tigers. Klein added one tackle on special teams. Offensively, he had a team-high four receptions for 36 yards and one touchdown. Both of his touchdowns were go-ahead touchdowns, the 1st on a reception to go up 7-3 and the kick-off return for the game-winning touchdown.
