The Bon Homme County Zoning Board is moving ahead with changes to their Confined Animal Feeding Operation rules. Brian McGinnis of District Three planning is working on a draft of the CAFO amendments for the board to consider and present at a future public hearing.
He says the proposed changes they’re looking at involves operations with animal units of 0 to 499, 500 to 999 animal units and 1,000 and above.
McGinnis says those with animal units of 1,000 or more won’t see any changes from the present rules.
McGinnis says the new CAFO proposal gives the Zoning Board some leeway in approving projects which would not allow a single person to veto a project.
A voluntary group has been working to try and find a compromise but hasn’t yet reached one. County residents have the option to refer the amendment to a public vote.
