Senator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton will not be running for re-election this year.
On a Facebook post, Hunhoff says he is taking a break after this year, mentioning his 92 year old mom and eight grand kids.
He says he may run again in the future, especially if a democrat is elected Governor. Hunhoff served in the Senate from 1993 through 1998 and in the House from 2009 through 2014. He also made an unsuccessful run for Governor in 1998.
Former states attorney Craig Kennedy of Yankton has filed as a democrat for the District 18 Senate seat.
