Disaster Relief Bill Caught up in Politics

Disaster Relief Bill Caught up in Politics

Congress and the President are caught up in politics trying to pass disaster relief legislation. Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska President Jim Dinklage says a disaster bill would be welcome to help those hit by blizzards and flooding, but for cattlemen the best option is the Livestock Indemnity Program.

He says ICON is working with the Nebraska Farmers Union Foundation to help get aid out to disaster victims.

Dinklage says the government needs to come up with a better safety net for livestock producers because grain farmers have a big advantage with government aid.

Dinklage says most of their ICON members were hit harder by the blizzard and loss of calves during the “bomb cyclone” than by the March flooding.
