The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced its All-Region teams on Thursday afternoon and three from Augustana baseball were honored. Tony Viger was named the NCBWA Central Region Player of the Year and first team All-Central Region. Jake Petersen and Jack Goihl were also named NCBWA All-Central Region First Team.

Augustana softball pitcher/utility player Jenelle Trautmann and catcher/first baseman Lindsay Spanton were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-Central Region team the organization announced on Thursday. Trautmann was named to the first team and Spanton to the second team.

Earlier Thursday, Viger was named the Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native, already named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year earlier in the season, has been dominant force at the plate all year for Augustana. Viger leads the NSIC in multiple categories in 2014, which include: runs scored (63), hits (88), RBI (61) doubles (28), and total bases (150). The Sioux Falls, S.D. native’s 28 doubles also rank first in the NCAA this season. The senior also is currently hitting a career-high .423 at the plate through 54 games.

– Augustana baseball couldn’t get the offense going at the plate in a 4-2 loss to Arkansas Tech in the opening round of the Central Region Tournament on Thursday. The Vikings snapped an eight-game winning streak with the loss and saw their record drop to 40-15 on the year. The Wonder Boys improved to 43-10.

Augustana will play Arkansas-Monticello in elimination game on Friday at 12 p.m. at Tech Field.
