The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is under fire again for another error.  More than $13-million in checks from drug manufacturers in the Medicaid rebate program were found in a small safe in an office.  State Auditor Charlie Janssen says his department noticed a discrepancy while looking at their books regarding federal funds.

Janssen says there were a total of 192 checks. Fifty-seven of those checks, or $6.8-million were not signed and that means anyone could of cashed or deposited them.

Janssen says there is no evidence that has happened.  He calls this a significant deficiency within the agency as law requires most checks to be deposited within three business days.  DHHS officials say the oversight was due to the office being short staffed.
