Determining Soil Health

Determining Soil Health

Determining the health of your soil may be difficult.  Part of what determines the health of soil is the ability of absorbing rainfall and penetrating to the roots below the soil surface.  Ben Brady is the District Conservationist with the NRCS office in Plymouth County of northwest Iowa.  He demonstrated a rain simulator at a recent soil health field day held last week.  Brady says it is important that fields capture all the moisture from a rainfall, and that it shouldn’t run off the field.  Brady also discussed the use of no-till planting versus conventional tillage.
