A group of 40 Farmers Union members from Minnesota attended the National Farmers Union’s Fly In this week in the nation’s capital. MFU President Gary Wertish says their main priority was to push Congress for a new farm bill with solid funding and no cuts. He says that’s important at a time farmers are receiving less than the cost of production for their commodities.

He says they also talked to federal lawmakers about the need for more and increased blends of renewable fuels.

Wertish says the other major issue impacting producers is the rising cost of health insurance. He says Congress must find a solution.

Wertish thinks their message was well received by lawmakers and that they understand what producers are going through. He says the challenge is to get them to work together.
