Delta Dental of South Dakota is ordering two new mobile dental trucks to continue serving kids across the state. The move provides two replacements vehicles. The original truck burned last year, the other vehicle is showing signs of age. The trucks are part of the nonprofit company’s mobile program. Spokesman for Delta Dental in Pierre, Mike Mueller
The visit to each town is scheduled sometimes a year in advance. They then work with the site partner, who provides a stipend for Delta, usually at $2,500, which Mueller says helps cover mobile truck operating costs, which run about $20,000 a week
Mueller says Delta can perform just about any procedure in the mobile trucks, with the exception of procedures that may require multiple visits
The trucks have served kids in 78 communities throughout South Dakota and provided more than $14.8 million in dental care since the program began in 2004.
