At their recent convention, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association members re-elected Gary Deering as their President. He says one of his priority issues is trying to get state legislation passed to require property taxes be based on the actual use of the land.

He says another goal is to make sure landowners are protected from the Keystone XL oil pipeline and that there’s enough bonding in place to protect against any adverse impacts of possible oil spills.

Deering says at the federal level they’re pushing the government to enforce proper labeling and not allow cell cultured or lab grown meat to be labeled as meat.

Deering also wants to see the Association’s membership grow during his next term.
