Attorney General Doug Peterson rejects suggestions that doing away with the death penalty would save Nebraska money.
Peterson says his office and the Department of Correctional Services is working to help lawmakers as they debate a bill to repeal the death penalty.
Peterson says he understands problems in other states, in particular a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma, could come into play as lawmakers debate the issue.
Nebraska, at present, lacks the drugs necessary to carry out lethal injection. Peterson says his office is working on a different lethal injection protocol that will withstand a constitutional challenge.
