Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has been holding town hall meetings around the state in the last couple of weeks.
At his stop in Laurel he answered a lot of questions, but none about the death penalty debate.
He says that wasn’t a surprise.
This year’s Unicameral voted to do away with the death penalty after a long emotional debate. That bill also withstood a veto by Ricketts.
The Governor is now helping fund a petition drive to put the death penalty question on next year’s ballot.
He says the people deserve the choice.
Ricketts has contributed over one hundred thousand dollars to the petition drive effort.
