Trade negotiators have reached an agreement on a Trans Pacific Partnership deal today in Atlanta. The full text of the agreement has yet to be submitted and full details won’t be released until the President presents it to Congress. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Philip Ellis says they’re pleased an agreement was reached and are anxious to see the fine print.
Ellis says the increased market access through the immediate reduction of tariffs should level the playing field for U.S. beef exports to these growing markets in the Pacific Rim.
Beef exports currently add over $350 to each head of cattle sold in the United States and completion of the TPP should increase demand in the 11 nations that are part of the deal.
Once the details of the TPP agreement are released then Congress will have a chance to read it and vote up or down on the deal.
