Coming off a monster game against Murray State that earned him a stint on ESPN’s SportsCenter, South Dakota State’s Mike Daum was named the Summit League Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office.
Daum was a catalyst in the Jackrabbits’ 88-84 overtime win over the Racers last Saturday, scoring a career-high 39 points with a 16 of 16 effort from the charity stripe that saw him set a school record for free throws made and tied the free throw percentage record. His 39 points was also the seventh highest scoring performance in Jackrabbit history and season-high for the Jacks and the Summit League.
“Mike has done an outstanding job of imposing his will on the game,” head coach T.J. Otzelberger said. “He continues to improve each week and we look forward to him continuing to take a leadership role with our team.”
The latest of several standout games in his career, Daum has now hit double figures 42 times in 46 games, reaching the 20-point mark in eight games this season (and 15th time in his career). He has scored over 30 points three times in his career and has set career-highs for points in the last two games.
