Daugaard: Shortage Of Skilled Workers

Daugaard: Shortage Of Skilled Workers

South Dakota’s low unemployment, and business expansions has created a shortage of skilled workers in many industries. In response to that, Governor Dennis Daugaard held a number of workforce development conferences around the state last spring to look for solutions. He now is traveling the state, talking about the results of those meetings.

He says there was agreement about the need for clear communications about employment expectations tied to education…

While higher wages were mentioned in the report, it was not one of the top solutions.

Daugaard says supply and demand will address most of the wage issues…

Daugaard says while the state competes with higher wages in other states, there are other factors at work…

Daugaard says the state will continue to be a middleman in economic and workforce development.
