South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard has proposed just over fifty million dollars in tax and fee increases to help maintain county and state roads.

His proposal is about half of what a summer study committee recommended for highway maintenance.

Daugaard says his bill is a first step…

Daugaard says it can be hard to estimate what road construction will cost in the future…

The proposal also designates about ten million dollars for local roads. Daugaard says they will match that with some more state dollars for county bridges…

The legislature is off today, but will return to Pierre tomorrow for a four day week.
