It’s feared the South Sioux City grain elevator that was severely damaged in an explosion last week may collapse. South Sioux City Police Chief Ed Mahon says plans are being formulated to protect nearby homes and businesses in case the 230-foot-tall Anderson Farms elevator topples.
Mahon says a final decision has yet to be reached on how to proceed.
Nearby homes and businesses remain evacuated. While no official cause of the explosion has been released, the speculation is that grain dust sparked the blast. One worker was seriously hurt.
