The flooding on the Big Sioux River caused the Corps of Engineers to cut back releases from Gavins Point Dam near Yankton to ten thousand cubic feet per second, dropping levels two to three feet.

City Manager Amy Nelson says they were watching carefully to avoid any issues with the water plant intakes…

 

Nelson says so far they have not seen any indication that pumps were picking up sand…

 

The Corps has said releases from Gavins Point Dam will be gradually increased as levels on the Big Sioux go down.
