Dakota Wesleyan has earned the Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball title.

Early on it looked like it was going to be all Midland in the championships game , but Dakota Wesleyan used a huge sixth inning to come back for a 7-6 win. The game was played at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Midland jumped out 4-0 lead after just an inning and a half, taking advantage of three Dakota Wesleyan errors. Dakota Wesleyan was able to plate a run in the bottom of the inning to pull within 4-1. But another pair of DWU errors in the sixth led to two more Warrior runs, making it 6-1. The Tigers then erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it up at 6-6. Dakota Wesleyan scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, and then had bases loaded with two outs in the eight, but the Warriors were able to finish off the inning.

This was the first year that the GPAC used a new format for the postseason that featured top seed (Briar Cliff) serving as one bracket host (1,4,5,8 seeds), and second seed (Doane) is the other bracket host (2,3,6,7 seeds) for the two four-team tournaments.

Dakota Wesleyan has now secured a berth to the NAIA Opening Round, along with the GPAC Regular Season Champion Briar Cliff. The 45-team event will be played May 12 – 15 and features nine, five-team double elimination tournaments. Opening Round qualifiers and seeding will be announced May 8. The nine Opening Round champions join World Series host Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) to make up the field at the 2015 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho. The event is slated to run from May 22 – 29.
