The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers shot a final round of 331 on Monday to claim the 2015-16 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf Championship with a four round total of 1349.
It marks the eight consecutive title for the Tigers. The 331 was also the lowest score of the day at the fourth and final qualifier of the 2015-16 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf season in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Morningside finished second on the day (334) and overall with a total of 1354, just five strokes back of DWU. The team race was tight entering the final day with four teams all within four strokes of each other. Mount Marty was third overall (1363) in the final team standings while Nebraska Wesleyan was fourth (1366) .
Individually, Lauren Fitts of Dakota Wesleyan, finished third on the day with a 78, but it was good enough for overall individual medalist honors with a 72-hole total of 310. This is the fourth consecutive GPAC Player-of-the-Year honor for Fitts. Her teammate, April Barnet carded the low round of GPAC Qualifier #4 with 76 and finished sixth overall.
Allison Depko of Midland finished second on the overall leader board with a 325 after shooting a 77 in Mitchell. Amy Ahlers of Concordia was third (326) while Logan Wagner of Mount Marty and Alex Mankle of Morningside took fourth and fifth place respectively with scores of 327 and 328.
The GPAC qualifies two teams (Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside) for the 22nd Annual NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships on May 17-20, 2016, at the Savannah Quarters Country Club, in Pooler, Georgia.
